Another arrival, another South Londoner, and another upgrade for the League One challenge.
With Ben Krauhaus, Damola Ajayi, and Brooklyn Ilunga all departing Hayes Lane at the end of the season, a winger-cum-attacking-midfielder was always going to be on Andy Woodman’s shopping list this summer.
Without a huge budget to fall back on, the manager will once again have to play some savvy cards in the loan market. Ethon Archer represents his first gamble, and it is likely to be the first of many. But evidence suggests this signing is a very well-calculated risk.
The former Kinetic Academy footballer had to travel a long and gritty path to secure his EFL dream. His CV contains sojourns at various football clubs in the South East, where he played part-time while working as an Amazon delivery driver. An eventual move to Torquay United in the National League South placed his foot on the full-time-pro ladder, before League Two’s Cheltenham Town took a punt on his talent and made him a bona fide Football League professional.
