It doesn’t fit the ‘little old Bromley’ narrative, but supporters who lived through the club’s Ryman Division One South days will remember terrace chats about Bromley being a sleeping giant.

Even while we were flirting with relegation to the Kent League in 00/01 and 01/02, with rumours abound that Bromley were about to go out of business, we spoke earnestly about the club’s latent potential. It all rested on getting the right people through the door.

All those years ago, we were seeing what Robin Stanton-Gleaves would eventually see, and what Jerry Dolke and Mark Goldberg realised before him.

Geographically, Bromley is the largest borough in London, and its population of 330,000 (Census 2021) makes it one of the most populous too. With that in mind, the club’s 132 years of non-league football could arguably be seen as 132 years of underachievement.
