It felt strange to start the season with a League Cup tie, but given the opponent was a fellow League One side, it served as a useful barometer for how Bromley’s pre-season preparation has gone and how ready they are for their new challenge.
To the relief of many, we witnessed a highly competitive fixture at Hayes Lane on Saturday, with the team from Berkshire running out eventual winners, albeit on penalties after the sides could not be separated in normal time.
