Last season, the Vertu Trophy was something of a teething issue for Bromley because, in truth, they didn’t have the squad depth to compete. The games came at a time when the club were still trying to get to grips with life in League Two, leaving Andy Woodman to second-guess how much rotation was the right amount.

This season, Bromley have been placed in a group with League One clubs Stevenage and AFC Wimbledon, with Crystal Palace U21s thrown in to boot.

The fact that Bromley have announced that only two sides of the ground will be open tells a story about how interested fans are in the encounter.

Last season, when Bromley travelled to Charlton, despite Bromley taking a big contingent for a local derby, Charlton fans treated the game with the same low bar, resulting in a paltry attendance of 2,900 in a 27,000-seat stadium.
