Only four teams completed the double over Bromley last season, and one of them was Tranmere Rovers.

Does that suggest Tranmere have Bromley’s number? Perhaps, but given the two wins were engineered by different managers, Nigel Adkins and current manager Andy Crosby, that would be a reductive take.

Crosby replaced Adkins on a temporary basis in late February 2025, and inspired such a turnaround that he was offered the job permanently at the end of the season. His thirteen games in charge at the back end of 24/25 saw Rovers win six and draw five. That’s quite the record for a side that seemed to be in relegation freefall prior to his appointment.

But while that form carried over into the start of this season, Rovers have failed to win any of their last seven league games. Like his Bromley counterpart, Andy Crosby has spent the last few weeks stressing the need to get back to basics, as he felt his side were failing in the fundamentals of defending and leaving themselves exposed. Tranmere’s 0-0 draw at home to Cambridge United in their last fixture suggests the defensive tide might be turning.
