Preview: Colchester United vs Bromley

MACHEL HEWITT: Only two teams lost fewer games last season, and only three conceded fewer goals. That defensive robustness helped Colchester to a 10th-place finish, one place above Bromley and only three points off seventh. In view of that, expectations are naturally high this time round.

It feels like Colchester United and Bromley are on a similar trajectory.

Since the Cowley brothers arrived at the JobServe Community Stadium, Colchester have become a hard team to beat. They took a while to get motoring last season, but once they did, they came within a final-month slump of making it into the League Two play-offs.

Once again, even though they currently sit in 14th place, albeit just five points off the play-offs, the U’s have only lost four games out of fourteen. But as with last season, it’s the draws that are killing them. Across their last sixty league games, Colchester have recorded twenty-five draws. Fine margins.
