Why Deji Elerewe left for Lincoln City

MACHEL HEWITT: I don’t doubt Bromley made some money here, but if the percentage owed to Charlton is correct, then there is no way they made the kind of money they should or could have done.

You sometimes see a workplace analogy used in sports to justify a player's departure from one club to another.

Put yourself in Deji Elerewe’s shoes and imagine you’ve been offered the chance to (at the bare minimum) double your wages and move to an organisation that operates at a higher level than your current employer. I suspect you would speak to the prospective employer at the very least, and give strong consideration to leaving in order improve your circumstances.

Would loyalty feature in your decision? Football, and sports in general, has a funny way of pushing the virtue and value of loyalty.

Deji’s move to Lincoln City was a no-brainer for him. Whether he went now or waited until the end of the season to go on a free, a departure to a club at a higher level was clearly on the cards for the talented young centre-back.
